Our Dear Friend and Pastor: Pastor Paul Grabill has just "graced" Heaven by his entry...! His "Celebration Day" was shared August 17th, 2011 here in State College, PA at State College Assembly of God by hundreds of Friends and Family members...and fellow pastors and wives!

I shall never forget my first meeting him...13 years ago...as he and the Elder board interviewed me for a staff position as Minister of Outreach and Visitation..! Pastor Paul Grabill has always been a Gentle Spiritual Giant to me and others who knew him. His quiet winsome character reflected a deep relationship with his Maker and God. His "choice of words became vehicles of communication you could always remember...!" Our entire congregation assimilated this diamond of truth.

I shall never forget our first motorcycle ride together two years ago...which I had to write a poem about: "Come on Down...!" His smile always erased any fear and his familiar voice was always inviting to the words of his Savior: JESUS CHRIST...which he wanted everyone to know as he knew HIM...!

Pastor Paul Grabill has left a "lasting LEGACY..."!!!

Who Would Kiss a Snake?

The Christian and Alchohol...

Some people say God doesn't mind if Christians drink alchoholic beverages. Many religious people used to feel drinking was okay as long as you didn't get drunk, but attitudes are changing. A recent popll by thye Barna Group reveals that one out of every five people who call themselves Christians don't think it is sin to get drunk. What do you think? More importantly, how does God feel about Christians using alchohol? What does the Bibnle say?

Wine in the Bible

Bible students debate whether the wine Jesus and His disciples drank was alchoholic or nonalchoholic. While strong arguments are offered on both sides of the controverseu, we don't benefit by speculating about uncertainties. Sometimes unfermented grape juice, which is not intoxitating, is also called wine.
The Bible affirms that wine can be a blessing. One Bible poet praised God for causing the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; and wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart (Psalm 104:14, 15).
And yet, we can be sure that the wisest approach for the Christian is to abstain from alchoholic drinks. The Bible repeats ominous warnings against wine's destructive effects and the dangers of drinking. Drunkeness will destroy your life!
Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder (Proverbs 23:29, 30, 32).
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise (Proverbs 20:1).
He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich (Proverbs 21:17).
It is not for kings...it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princess strong drink (Proverbs 31:4).
But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink, they err to vision, theystumble in judgment (Isaiah 28:7).
The Old Testament's strong warnings against alchohol's destructive properties tell us it is foolish and presumptuous for the follower of Christ to drink for pleasure. Who shall kiss a snake?

The Dangers of Drunkeness and Addiction

All around us the results of using alchohol confirm the Bible's warnings. Drunkenness and alchohol addiction have become a major problem. Each year, tens of thousands of Americans seek help in substance abuse centers. Young people espcially are likely to abuse alchohol, drinking until they'r drunk and often become
addicted to alchohol. Nearly half of America's teenagers drink alchohol.
The New Testament warns even more strongly that the Old Testament against drinking. Christ and his apostles repeatedly declare that a drunkard has no share in the kingdom of God: Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolotors, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor coveteous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God (I Corinthians 6:9, 10; see also Like 21:34; Romans 13:13; I Corinthins 5:11; Galations5:21; and I Peter 4:3).

The Danger My Drinking May Pose to Others

Maybe you are thinking, Oh yes, but I'm strong enough not to get drunk. Maybe, But we must also conmsider the effects our drinbking may have on our children and our brothers and sisters in Christ.
God says emphatically that we must avoic any behaviour that might contribute to someone elso falling into sin: Let us...resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother's way if our brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died (Romans 14:13, 15, NEKJ).
Maybe you are strong, but think how awful itwould be to find out that your drinking has caused a weaker person to fall into sin and spiritual death. The use of an intoxitating, addicting substance such as alchohol is a very serious matter because many who become addicted are never able to overcome their addiction. Would you like to discover at God's final judgment that your self-indulgence had caused a brother or sister to fall?
Denying ourselves the use of alchohol for our brother's sake is a small sacrifice compared to how greatly a weaker person may benefit: And think about this: If abstaining from drinking does seem too great a sacrifice, maybe you are not really as strong as you think.

The Cost of Drinking

Drinking is expensive. Americans spend over $150 billion every year on alchohol. God wants His children to help others in need. How can Christ's followers selfishly spend money on wining and dining, while so many people gowithout food, or clothes, or a scrap of Scripture for their children? Just think how much suffering $150 billion could releive.!

Have a Drink?

The followers of Jesus are His purifying salt and illuminating light in a dark world. He has given us His very own Spirit so that we can help lost peopl;e find their way into His pure, whole, and righteous kingdom. How can we justify disapating our strength and wasting God's gifts on drinking for pleasure, espwecially when it may create a temptation for others? It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 a.m. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him.

I saw him looking at his watch, and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.

I inquired as to her health; he told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, "And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?"

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is."

I had to hold back tears as he left; I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

What is LOVE??

With Valentine's Day coming up, February is usually considered the month of love. When I was a student in college I had to write a paper about "the principle of love" for my ethics class. Now, it looks like a nice bunch of words from some good study and research, focusing a lot on "agape love," though it also covers two other types of love: phileo and eros. However, at that time, I had not personally experienced marital love, or a "mother's love" (except for what I had observed in my own home). And I'm sure I really didn't understand the words very much.

But, I'm still asking myself if I truly understand love - especially agape love. That's sacrificial love - not "self-serving, feel good" love - but acting for the good of another person and not for one's self.

I read a story recently about a young mother and her two children driving down a mountain road one morning. She was on her way to work and to drop her children off at the babysitters on the way. They never arrived at their destinations. After 8 1/2 hours of searching, they were found in their upside down submerged car in a cold mountain stream down the mountain side.

The little girl was dead, the mother had also died, with evidence she had struggled to free herself but was trapped. However, the two-year-old baby boy was still alive - barely! How had he survived? The mother had held him up, in a very painful position for herself, so that his head was above the water in a pocket of air inside the vehicle! She eventually died in that position. She gave her life so that the baby might live! Is that love?? Does it not remind us of Jesus? He gave His life with unbearable suffering so that we might live. That's agape love!

It is said that love is not something you feel, but something you do. Fortunately, many times when we "do" love, God blesses us with a pleasurable feeling too. But often it is just a decision. We are acting for the good of another person, recognizing their worth, and not pleasing ourselves.

Did I mention that I was a priest? One of my favorite activities was to marry couples. Even after Emperor Claudius passed his law, I kept on performing marriage ceremonies - secretly, of course. It was really quite exciting. Imagine a small candlelit room with only the bride and groom and myself. We would whisper the words of the ceremony, listening all the while for the steps of soldiers.

One night, we did hear footsteps. It was scary! Thank goodness the couple I was marrying escaped in time I was caught. (not quite as light in my feet as I used to be, I guess.) I was thrown into jail and told that my punishment was death.

I tried to stay cheerful. And do you know what? Wonderful things happened. Many young people came to the jail to visit me. They threw flowers and notes up to my window. They wanted me to know that they, too, believed in love.

We attended the new SEAPORT COMMUNITY CHURCH A/G with BRADFORD WHIPPLE, new pastor (a young teenager 34 years ago, attending our church (Calvary Temple in Groton) now 52 years old and pastoring now there for 21 years with his lovely wife: Debbie. A CARPENTER'S GLASSES

My mother's father worked as a carpenter. On this particular day, he was building some crates for clothes his church was sending to orphanages in China. On his was home, he reached into his shirt pocket to find his glasses, but they were gone. When he mentally replayed his earlier actions, he realized what had happened; the glasses had slipped out of his pocket unnoticed and fallen into one of the crates, which he had nailed shut. His brand new glasses were heading for China!

The Great Depression was at its height and Grandpa had six children. He had spent $20 for those glasses that very morning. He was upset by the thought of having to buy another pair. It's not fair, he told God as he drove home in frustration. I've been very faithful in giving of my time and money to your work, and now this.

Months later. the director of the orphanage was on furlough in the United States. He wanted to visit all the churches that supported him in China, so he came to speak one Sunday at my grandfather's small church in Chicago. The missionary began by thanking the people for their faithfulness in supporting him.

But most of all, he said, I must thank you for the glasses you sent last. You see, the Communists had just swept through the orphanage, destroying everything, includ- ing my glasses.

I was desparate. E#ven if I had the money, there was simply no way of replacing those glasses. Along with not being able to see well, I experienced headaches every day, so my coworkers and I were much in prayer about this. Then your crate arrived.
When my staff removed the covers, they found a pair of glasses lying on top.

The missionary paused long enough to let his words sink in. Then, still gripped with the wonder of it all, he continued: Folks, when I tried on the glasses, it was as though they had been custom made just for me! I want to thank you for being a part of that.

The people listened, happy for the miraculous glasses. But the missionary surely must have confused their church with another, they thought. There were no glasses on their list of items to be sent overseas. But sitting quietly in the back, with tears streaming down his face, an ordinary carpenter realized the Master Carpenter had used him in an extraordinary way.

There are times we want to blame God instead of thanking Him! Perhaps we ought to try to thank Him more often. May GOD bless your week. Look for perfect mistakes. People are like tea bags - you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are.

Then the Department of Transportation demanded a bond be posted for the future costs of moving power lines and other overhead obstructions, to clear the passage for the Ark's move to the sea. I told them that the sea would be coming to us, but they would hear nothing of it.

Getting the wood was another problem. There's a ban on cutting local trees in order
to save the spotted owl. I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls - but no go!

When I started gathering the animals. an animal rights group sued me. They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will. They argued the accommodations were too restrictive, and it was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in a confined space.

Then the EPA ruled that I couldn't build the Ark until they'd conducted an environmental impact study on your proposed flood.

I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the Human Rights Commission on how many minorities I'm supposed to hire for my building crew.

Immigration and Naturalization are checking the green-card status of most of the people who want to work.

The trades unions say I can't use my sons. They insist I have to hire only Union workers with Ark-building experience.

To make matters worse, the IRS seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species.

So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10 years for me to finish this Ark.

Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine, and a rainbow stretched across the sky. Noah looked up in wonder and asked, ' You mean you're not going to destroy the world?

The particular night I remembered so vividly was the night my father arrived home from work looking greviously tired and very, very sad. I didn't know how to comfort him. What can I do? I thought. It scared me to see my father, who was usually happy, filled with such deep sadness. What happened? I wondered.

My father sat down at the supper table, and we all gathered around. His eyes were solemn but clear. Yet, his face shone. He began to speak, "Today, one of my jobs at Swifts was to do the 'Sheep Kill.' Working in a packing house is always a hard job, but today was the worst day I've ever had to work. Today we slaughtered lambs. As the lambs came down the line, "he paused for a moment trying to contain himself; his eyes filled with tears. "Today the lambs were alive as they hung by their legs on the conveyor belt. It was my job to take the ear of the lamb and hold it steady. Then I gently stuck a sharp, narrow butcher knife into the juggler vein to bleed the lamb. It was tough. Those little lambs never make a cry or sound as they die. Some of the little lambs with pitiful eyes even licked my hand trying to feed as they die."

By now everyone in our family was crying. Later, they prayed with a new understanding of Christ's sacrifice filling their minds. "I'll never forget this supper time," Brotzman writes. "My Dad closed with the words, 'And Jesus is that Lamb,'"

"The significance of the number 53 and what it means to me is much more than the length of that truck. It stands for ISAIAH 53 and my Salvation!"

For God so loved us that He sent His only Son to save us, to pay the price for our sins. Such love, such a sacrifice--for you and for me. Like Harry, the number 53 has new meaning for all of us today....in the whole world.

"For God so loved the world He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" (Jihn 3:16).

What a sacrifice! "He was led like a lamb to the slaughter." What a salvation! What a gift from Our Father who loves us!

Along time ago, in a galactic dimension far, far away...
It is an era that ends all time. The civil war, which existed from the moment of Lucifer's rebellion, was about to come to a complete and final end. The knights of the Good Force anxiously anticipated this moment since the Jedi's ascension. And the Lord Lucifer had prepared himself for thousands of years for the final assault of the Jedi.

Lucifer knew he could not defeat the glorified Jedi. So he deceived the life forms on earth to join him in the final battle, Armageddon. The evil one seduced most of the humans to follow him in the latter days. The entire planet eventually degenerated until it became like in the days of Noah Solo. The Jedi had warned His knights against the treacherous deceptions of Lord Lucifer. But in the final days, only the very elect remained pure and uncorrupted by the evil force. In the last days, the assemblies of good knights grew great in number, but only a few followed the Jedi unconditionally.

Suddenly and unexpectantly, a great disturbance was felt in the force. And on the appointed day and time, the Jedi returned to earth to end the reign of Lord Lucifer once and for all. As he approached the planet, the Jedi beamed up the faithful knights. Millions upon millions of people waited for the transporter to beam them into the city above the clouds. And they were sorely disappointed because their names were not in the transport list.

In the galaxy known as Megeddo, the final battle was waged. In the first attack, Lucifer sent the rebellious biological creatures of earth to fight the Jedi. With one swing of his light saber, the Jedi stopped their assault and he cast them aside.

In the second on slaught, the evil storm troopers attempted to destroy the Jedi. They were stopp0ed quickly and returned to the lake of fire. Finally, Lord Lucifer and the Jedi met face to face. All creation watched as the saber of light cut through the sword of darkness. Then the Jedi snatched Lucifer's weapons from his hand and cast him into the infernal abyss, forever and ever.

With Lucifer and the storm troopers out of the way, the Jedi returned to the city above the clouds to reward the knights who had resisted and fought the evil force. A great book was opened and the name of each freedom fighter was read. Those who lost their lives in battle or who had been tortured for following the Jedi were honored first. Then, one by one, the other knights received their reward. And the Jedi placed all the faithful knights at his right side.

The innumerable mass that remained asked why their names were not in the book of life. With great sorrow, they heard the response, "Depart from me. I never knew you. Although you were given every opportunity to follow the Good Force, you followed Lucifer and the evil force all of your lives. You even resisited and fought me in the final battle. Lord Lucifer trembled in horror when the Jedi returned to life. The evil one expected immediate judgment and destruction from the Good Force. So he retreated to the infernal abyss, cowering behind his storm troopers.

The Jedi commanded his followers to teach the world about the hurt and corruption caused by the evil empire, admonish everyone to reject Lord Lucifer and then convince all people to accept the Jedi as their Savior and Lord.

Then he vowed "All who accept Me and walk in the ways of the Good Force shall inherit eternal life with the Existing One." As he ascended from their presence, the Jedi promised "The Force will be with you." "I shall return."

Lord Lucifer watched the Jedi ascend to the city above the clouds. Believing the ascension to be a retreat, Lucifer mustered his storm troopers and made a full scale assault on the holy city. The Existing One sent the powerful knight, Michael, to combat the evil forces. Michael and his army won the battle and cast the evil force from the holy city forever.

Realizing he could never harm the Jedi in the holy city, he decided to inflict an even greater pain--by terrorizing the new knights of the Good Force.Lord Lucifer unleashed a diabolical six-step scheme he simply called PLAN 666. In the first stage, the evil force created a hideous. 10-headed beast to persecute the holy knights. For centuries, this beast tried to destroy the holy knights by bathing them in their own blood. But for every one who lost his life in this terrible tribulation, 10 more stood up to take his place.

Realizing the first stage would never work, Lucifer stopped the physical persecution and tempted the holy knights with Stage 2: Seductive Power. When the good knights obtained uninhibited power, they started seeing themselves as earthly lords instead of heaven priests.
The taste of power caused many of them to worship the evil force, a thing the Jedi resisted to the bitter end. Power caused others to forget their purpose and commission. At that point, Lord Lucifer unleashed the other lethal stages from his death star.

Stage 3: Make the good knights reject the Good Force and follow the path of REBELLION and SIN. Stage 4: Weaken the knights' power by causing them to fight one another instead of the evil; empire. Stage 5: Strike the knights with a spirit of apathy. Stage 6: Convince the assembly of knights to deny the authority of their holy scriptures.

The evil PLAN 666 almost succeeded. If the Jedi had not empowered the great knights such as Luther, Knox, Wesley, Edwards, Finney, Sunday and Graham, the good empire might have been destroyed.
